NEXT MEETING DATES: October 19th and November 16th 10h-13h
Introductions started by Tessa Thomas
Members present: Gynnis Davis, Joseph Dunn, Stephanie Cronan, Jennifer Rodriguez, Jackie Labat, Pamela Broussard, Yannick Brigna, Maya Pelichet, Kristen Jones, Gillian Skupin, Carson Kelly, Stephanie, Malerie Ducharme, Madison Westbrook, Mason Westbrook, Sydney Prochaska, Victory Adikema
Joseph Dunn: Gave an update on the activities of CODOFIL specifically on the idea of increasing the sense of a Louisiana French Identity as part of ALCFES. Also, because we are going to be in Lafayette this year, the opportunity is ripe to increase this Louisianian Presence
Review of the 2013 Conference:
things the students enjoyed: Open Mic and the Dance
Ice Breakers: Movie Titles, Tape Game, Gynnis’ Activity
Group size during the ice breakers was a bit large
Malorie Ducharme suggested that we split the french 1 group to create a more intimate environment
Critiques:
Ensure that the students who ordered particular meals get what they need
Jackie: Chubby Carrier will come to play at Vermillonville. He has asked that we promote his music before the event
Not enough time for the scavenger hunt
2014:
Students discussing the idea of making two-step dance instruction a bigger part of the conference.
Joseph: Perhaps we can involve the francojeune members to help add to the pool of people who know how to dance. FrancoJeune is also interested is working a panel for us (maybe as the keynote speaker so that we have a visible and viable presence of French in front of the student). It is essential for the participants of ALCFES to see a young and vibrant group of Francophones living and working in Louisiana.
Why did we abandon the Acadien Village in the past?
Theme Discussion: A night (weekend) in Lafayette, Un Gumbo des Langues (Ca c’est bon), la vie en cajun (food, family, tradition)
Teacher Conversation Meeting:
Conversation about the need for scholarship students to write an essay of motivation to be candidates for international scholarships. Much discussion about fraud or cheating so the idea to allow students to talk about why they are motivated to go and learn french in an essay in English.
Need to communicate to teachers that they should choose motivated students, not just academically gifted students.
Jen: Maybe an opportunity to deliver a video as part of their interviews, instead of just tests and live interviews.
Conversation about Exchanges between students in the US and the Francophone countries.
Travis: Make adjustments to the schedule to accommodate the shortage of rooms at Hilton Lafayette
Discussion about professional development opportunities for teachers so that way we could help them to get CLU’s or professional development credit for attending.
